WEEK 3: Song/Lines/Quiz

HW: Enjoy the weekend!

As the bell rang for fourth period, everyone walked into class and sat down quietly. We then got out our binder reminders and wrote down the agenda for the day. After we finished writing down in our binder reminders, Sukhari got up and read the previous blog. After reading, we fixed the mistakes in her blog. After that, we got the book we've been reading SCHOOL TRIP out, and went over what we read the past night. We then opened our English notebooks and thought of three words to describe the last chapter of SCHOOL TRIP. Then, Ms. Nakada got up and graded what we have written down in our English notebooks for the past three weeks. Everybody got out their Chromebooks and took the week 3 quiz in Schoology. After that, the bell rang, and everybody walked out happy to have a four day weekend.

Today, Sydney and I were both tricked, and instead of Sydney, I got picked. We walked into the classroom and took a minute to cool down or doodle.  While taking a minute, everyone wrote down the agenda and homework. After, we helped Amari adjust his blog, helping him correct it a bit. Then, we went over School Trip by: Jerry Craft, and did our three words about the pages we read. Next, the class went over Week 3: Song/Lines. The song was, "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" by Edith Piaf and the lines were "The Orange" by Wendy Cope. Finally, It was our last task of the day, and we went over Back to School Night! The whole class made invitations for our parents inviting them to come. Lastly, we made it to the end of class and packed up. Then, we walked out joyfully.

HW RJ 3.2 School Trip

p.186 - 219 & summary 

Today we walked into class and took our seats. Then, we took out our binder reminders and our writing journals. After we wrote down our agendas in our binder reminders, we took out our School Trip books. Then, we looked over the chapter we read the night before and talked about the chapter. We learned that Wednesday is going to be a reader's workshop day. Then, we took our readeing journals and finished the question we got yesterday: "How can we better balance hard work and time for ourselves?" After that, we did our song of the week "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" by Edith Piaf, a french artist. After the song, we transitioned into our poem: "The Orange" by Wendy Cope. Then, the bell rang, and we all happily skedaddled out of the classroom.

Today we walked into class and Ms Nakada asked us to take out binder reminders, and write the agenda then go over Amerie first blog . After that it was time to take the Quiz on what we learn so far Ms Nakada asked us to take out  Table of contents and write down the Quote for week three and the class talk about how we can better blame  hard work and taking time for ourselves? then we packup to go.

 Today we walked in class and started writing the agenda. Then, we corrected the blog. After that, we read School Trip, and took notes on The Writing Process Guide. We did the quote of the week: "In France, we work in order to live. But in America it seems you live in order to work." Sylvie from School Trip by Jerry Craft. Finally, the bell rang, and we all left to lunch.

Hello, this is my first blog. I hope you had a good weekend. On August 25 we all walked in the classroom ready for English. Our first job was to get our Binder Reminders to check. Then, we summarized School Trip like always. After that, we started writing our three words, dreams - food - cuisine - exploration. Then, she checked our Reading Journals as well. Most of us took the Week 2 quiz. Last, we worked on our "My Personal Writing Process" assignment.

Today we walked in the classroom and took a minute to either doodle or put your head down. Then, we filled out our binder reminders. Next, we did blog corrections for Felipe's blog. After that, he unfortunately chose me for the blog. We did a recap of last night's reading homework for School Trip. Once we were done recapping School Trip, we wrote our three words, and moved onto Q-Q-S-L. After we were done listening to the song, we talked about what it's about. The song was about war, fighting, and truly understanding. Then, we worked on The Writing Process. Then, we happily left for lunch.

HW: RJ 2.2 School Trip p. 100 - 129

Today in class when we first walked in quietly to our desk, took a minute to breathe or doodle, and took out our binder reminder to write down the agenda. After, we wrote in our agenda we did some corrections to John's first blog. Next, we took out our reading journal and discussed what happened in chapter 4 of School Trip. We talked about the difference in tones. We also talked about differences in American and French culture.

After discussing about School Trip we got out our notebook and turned to the table of contents in our notebook to write the second week quote, question, song, lines. First things first we wrote the quote "To build community requires vigilant awareness of the work we must do to undermine all of the socialization that leads vs to behave in ways that perpetuate domination"-bell hooks. This Black feminist author means we have to pay attention to who is dominating and who we need to hear more from. Then, we did the question: What do you think about school? After, we answered the question period four ended and we went out to lunch happily.

HW: RJ 2.1 SCHOOL TRIP p. 76 - 99

After that, the previous student who wrote the previous blog read his first blog he wrote down. Then, he chose me, so I started writing this blog. The class continued on and started reading a poem of Ms. Nakada's choice known as "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver. The class then proceeded to break down the poem to understand the necessary message of the poem and what it's about.

Then, all the students who had Chromebooks, took them out to do the week 1 quiz. Ms. Nakada even gave two Chromebooks to use temporarily, so some students without Chromebooks could get them. We all discussed the answers with Ms. Nakada during a few of the questions on the quiz and then let the students do the rest of the quiz by themselves. While doing the quiz Ms. Nakada picked the student, Skyler to pass out all the English books and get on with the day. After that, the class has to write a summary about School Trip p. 76 - 99. After that, Ms. Nakada dismisses the class to lunch calmly.

Week 1: Q.Q.S.L.

Week 1 Quiz

First, we walked into class and wrote down our agenda. When we finished up  the agenda, we took some time to read and took a small break. Then, we went over pages 52-75 of School Trip and discussed the three words. Then, we did our Q.Q.S.L. We discussed what we hope for. For the song in our Q.Q.S.L. it was "We Are Going to Be Friends" by The White Stripes. Using that song, we had to find a lyric to choose. The song was about starting elementary school and making friends. One of the favorite lyrics chosen was "look at all the bugs we found." Our line was "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver. Then, everyone packed up their stuff. Once everyone was dismissed we all left to lunch.

Week 1: Quote Question 

 Today in Ms. Nakada's class we took one minute to breathe and relax before the class could start fourth period. After the quick break, we started to correct Jackie's first blog, and we found a few mistakes but overall Jackie's first blog was good. Then, Ms. Nakada and the class went over chapter two of School Trip. Then, the class started continuing our first day letter we had started yesterday. Later, Ms. Nakada told us to get our English notebook, and we were doing the week 1: Quote Question. A few minutes later the bell rang, and everyone went to lunch excited.

Today everyone came into class and wrote down the agenda. After they were done, they took a minute to relax. Then, they made corrections to the previous blog.  After that, they started writing in their notebooks for the first time. Next, they reviewed the first 27 pages of School Trip. And a bit after that, they finished writing in their notebooks/Reading Journals. 

Then Ms. Nakada read the first day letter, again. They started writing back their first day letters near the end of class. And when the bell rang, everyone pushed in their chairs and headed off to lunch.

HW RJ 1.1 SCHOOL TRIP 

       P. 1-27. Bring supplies!

Today we received the School Trip book in class, and everyone was told to read to the pages 1-27. Everyone was very excited and went straight to reading. Some people even read when they weren't supposed to.  

Then, Ms. Nakada gave us a piece of paper that told the students about her past experiences with school and life and some interesting things about her. Everyone in class was quite ecstatic today, and some finished their homework in class. Everyone left to lunch happily.

First day letter - Blog name

HW: Return C.O./A.U.P./E.C./H.Q.

It was the first day of school at Emerson! Fourth period started and as students made their way into the room, they found seats based on the letter I assigned. Then, I passed out binder reminders and students labeled them. Next, they wrote down the agenda. 

After that, we went over the contents of the Welcome Packets with all of the forms that needed to be returned and a reminder about the uniform and phone policy (along with a new "don't order food" policy). 

With that school business out of the way, I passed out the Course Outline, and we went over that this was everyone's last first day of middle school. We talked about making sure you have space and quiet to get school work done. 

We proceeded through the Course Outline and reviewed materials needed for class. We talked a little about equitable grading and expectations for work habits and cooperation. After the simple rules for the class, we took a quick look at the syllabus before naming our blog: 24K Gold Class.
